Pageant Prep~ Jr Miss Queen of Charities
This spring/summer Beany is Participating in two maybe three pageants...
1. Queen of Charities~April 29th
2. NAM~June 14th-16th
3.MAC????~August 10th-12th
The first pageant is less than a week away and is the Junior Miss Queen of Charities Pageant, this is a semi-natural pageant, meaning no glitz but light make-up is allowed. The theme of this pageant is Candyland. We have only been sparingly preparing for this pageant as we view it as simply a warm-up for NAM, one of the requirements to win Queen of Charities is to raise money and we just aren't very good at that so we do not think we will win, as we have raised very little money. But being on stage infront of a crowd is always good practice.
So we have a dress
An interview suit

Intro...
A little over 10 wonderful years ago I gave birth to a perfect little person, she was/is beautiful. This beautiful baby girl has over the years transformed into a beautiful 10 year old young lady. Why name my blog the most unlikely pageant mom well... because I am. I am a person who is content in jeans and a t-shirt, hair in a pony tail and no make-up on. I have never been big on hair, make-up and clothes which all seems so anti-pageant mom, but hey thats me. My Daughter Beany (her nickname) on the other hand is all clothes, hair, make-up and girl, she does love sports though soccer, volleyball and cheerleading. Well back to the story...
Last year in early April my gorgeous daughter asked to participate in her very first pageant. It was the National American Miss Pageant, which is a natural pageant AKA no toddlers and tiara's insanity. I of course said yes and that began my new role as pageant mom *I'm not very good at it :) *
So we bought a dress, an interview suit practiced her walk and off to the pageant we went... all seemed good we arrive and the hotel staff assists us with our bags and then I got my first hint that we were not at all prepared the valet said " wow you guys are packed light", at this point I look around and see other pageant girls with tons of luggage, dress bags and least twice as much luggage as we had, my first thought oh-no.
So we get to our room unpack, head down to check in to the pageant. At pageant check in everything goes well, and Beany meets some of the past winners and other contestants.
The next two days of the pageant went fine and we learned a few things:
1. A dress from Davids Bridal is pretty much never going to win.
2. An interview suit is a little less of what you would actually wear to an interview
3. We should have done some optional contestants
4. She needs to practice, practice, practice
5. being pretty is not enough
Beany did not win, she didnt even place top 20 but she had a blast and made a lot of new friends who she cannot wait to see again.
The winner of the Jr Preteen division was a pretty 10 year old girl who had obviously practiced, was very poised and I had actually picked her to win as soon as we met her.
So that's last years experience and we have stepped up our game for this year.....
